The Mikals Family Retreat was designed by SANDBOX for a panoramic, sloping site with spectacular views of Northstar and the snow-covered Sierra Crest. Created for a young couple who intend to make this their full-time residence, the home features 3,800 square feet spread across three levels, as the architecture steps with the natural slope of the land. The primary views occur off of the rear of the home, and thus SANDBOX incorporated ample glass, deck and terrace areas into the design. The Master Suite is split-off from the main body of the home for privacy and a special sense of place. A glass-enclosed heavy-timber bridge and covered Fireside Porch connect the Master retreat to the main social spaces. Folding glass doors on both levels serve the deck and lower level terrace areas, complete with a firepit and hot tub!
