Soon to be completed, this 5,000 square foot custom Lahontan home will be the primary residence for a local couple and their two kids. A heavy-timber framed structure, with large window walls, grand vaults and a second-story bridge spanning between the Great Room and Dining Room, will create a dramatic, open floor plan that will encompass four full master suites, Great Room, Kitchen, Dining, Media Room, Office, Wine Cellar and more. Many green building technologies were utilized in the construction of the home. Photo (above) by SANDBOX showing the South/Rear Elevation getting closer to completion.
Designed for a private and sunny site with sweeping views of the Martis Creek meadow and Northstar, a strong connection between indoor and outdoor spaces was paramount. This tie to the outdoors was achieved through the use of large window walls to capture light and views, as well as extensive outdoor living in the form of terraces and second-level decks, on both the front and rear of the home. Accessed through large folding glass doors from the primary living spaces, the terraces will feature a combination of two outdoor fireplaces, dining and lounging zones, a mix of covered and uncovered spaces, an outdoor kitchen and a sunken spa. On the exterior, the use of an indigenous palette of materials such as Cedar siding, heavy timbers, copper and stone, creates a timeless and rugged look that compliments the landscape. Photo by SANDBOX showing partial South/Rear Elevation under construction (above).
The home wraps the Entry on three sides to create a courtyard that is partially protected from the elements by the two opposing garage wings. This also will serve to open-up and ‘welcome’ the owners and visitors in. Photo (above) by SANDBOX showing the Front Elevation under construction.
Inside, fun, custom details abound, such as a glass-walled heavy timber stair, a custom inlaid Walnut and iron spiral stair, and a steel and timber bridge that flies over the Great Room and Dining Area to connect the upper level bedroom wings of the home.
