SANDBOX designed the Frankel Family Retreat for a private forested lot in Martis Camp. Completed in 2015, by Mark Tanner Construction, the home serves as the ideal mountain getaway for the Frankel Family. An open, flowing floor plan is designed to foster time together. Photo by Vance Fox, shows the Living Room, as the perfect family hangout, with it’s granite fireplace as the focus, and a cozy Game Nook, looking out to the view. Big sliding glass doors spill out to the private main terrace to the right.
Reclaimed wood accents are used throughout the inside of the home, as can be seen here, intermixed with painted cabinets in the Kitchen (above). The result is a successful nod to the rustic mountain location, while maintaining a lighter and brighter feel to the space. Photo by Vance Fox.
Reclaimed wood is also used extensively outside, as can be seen in the above photo by Vance Fox of the Front/Entry Elevation.
To take best advantage of the private forest setting, SANDBOX planned a covered Dining & BBQ Terrace, an uncovered Fireside Terrace (above) and a Lounging and Spa Terrace with sunken hot tub (not shown). Accessed off of the main social spaces by sliding glass doors, the terrace areas are the perfect place to spend a Summer afternoon.
The Master Bedroom is relatively modest in size, but perfectly scaled for a mountain cabin. With a windowed sitting nook, looking out to the private forest view, and a stone fireplace, the space feels comfortable and cozy.
Painted finishes and reclaimed barnwood are well-mixed again in the Master Bath (above). Photo by Vance Fox.
A fun Kids’ Bunk Room (above) has extra room for sleepovers with friends, as well as space to play games and do the dreaded homework.
The upstairs Media Room resides down the hall from the Kids’ Bunk Room, and allows the kids to watch something different from the adults downstairs in the Living Room. There is also a deck off this space, suitable as a Summer Sleeping Porch. Big reclaimed barnwood sliding doors close off the space when needed.
