SANDBOX designed this fresh take on a mountain cabin for site 316 in Martis Camp. Designed to be traditional in form, but with a fun and slightly funky material and color palette – a combination we’re calling ‘California Alpine.’ Photo by Vance Fox showing the Front Elevation of the home shortly after completion.
With 3,250 square feet of living space, 4 bedrooms, 4.5 baths, office and game loft, this home packs a lot of function into its somewhat modest footprint. An open Kitchen-Dining-Great Room plan, as can be seen in the photo of the Great Room and partial Dining above by Vance Fox, makes the home feel even more spacious.
Coupled with lots of glass and terrace areas, there is a very strong indoor-outdoor connection, capturing light, views and allowing for fantastic outdoor living. Photo (above) by Vance Fox showing the rear of the home with its main spa & firepit terrace, covered fireside dining/BBQ terrace and upper level fireside deck – no shortage of great places to hang out and take in the views and breathe some fresh mountain air!
The interior palette is mountain rustic, yet light, bright and calming, with some more modern touches, as can be seen in the Kitchen-Dining photo (above) by Vance Fox. Coupled with lots of glass, the result dispels the notion of a traditional mountain cabin as dark.
Photo by Vance Fox shows the Great Room and doors/windows to outside, as viewed from the Dining area.
The bathrooms mix refined tile design with rustic reclaimed barnwood elements for a rich result. Photo above by Vance Fox.
The Mud Room and Laundry Room features reclaimed barnwood lockers and cabinets. Photo above by Vance Fox.
