SANDBOX designed this 5,100 s.f. mountain 'farmhouse' for a large lot in Martis Camp. Situated down a long meandering drive, the home has the feel of a large family compound, with a water feature that travels from the front of the home, underneath a bridge, to the rear by the hot tub. A 775 s.f. guest house was also designed to be built in the future, overlooking the water. Photo (above) by Vance Fox, shows the water feature off the front of the Great Room, with big glass doors opening on both sides of the room!
A large level lawn area out back, accessed off the expansive rear deck, makes for perfect afternoons with the family, playing games and enjoying time outdoors. A large mix of uncovered and covered deck areas, complete with a fireplace, fire pit and a sunken spa, serve the home well. Photo (above) by Vance Fox, showing the rear of the home, with its multiple deck areas.
Inside, the floor plan is open and generous, with room for the largest of family gatherings. Rustic reclaimed barnwood flooring and heavy timber trusses contrast nicely with brighter painted finishes to create a harmonious balance! The Dining Room shares a fireplace with the expansive outdoor deck, and is visible to greet guests to the home. Photo (above) by Vance Fox, shows the Great Room (with Dining beyond), as it gets its finishing touches.
The Kitchen also strikes a perfect balance between rusticity and a fresh, bright look, with its painted cabinets and cream subway tile contrasting with the barnwood floor and island. A unique folding window, with an indoor/outdoor counter, allows for food to be conveniently passed from the Kitchen to the outside Dining Deck (photo above by Vance Fox).
A great Breakfast/Game Nook sits conveniently adjacent to the Kitchen, overlooking the creek, and with big windows for natural light - a perfect place for a morning snack, or for the kids to do their homework, or the ongoing puzzle. Photo (above left) by Vance Fox, showing the Nook with custom wine cab and bar adjacent. A nearby full bath serves the Family/Media Room and as a second powder bath close to the Kitchen. Photo (above right).
A fantastic Family/Media Room sits nearby to the Kitchen, with a large media wall and built in day-beds for overflow sleeping & storage below. Generous windows bring in light and nature, and a small deck spills off one side. Photo by Vance Fox.
The Master Bath has great windows capturing abundant morning light and a view of the creek. A oversized steam shower and free standing tub create the owners' spa! Medicine cabinets are hidden mirrors that roll on a barndoor track, as can be seen in the photo above.
The Master (photo by Vance Fox) has a fireplace trimmed in a charcoal subway tile and barnwood, to blend rustic and more modern materials for a cool detail. A windowed sitting area spills out onto the hot tub deck for direct access.
In addition to the Master Suite, the home has 4 guest suites, including a big kids' Bunk Room, easily sleeping multiple families. Photo above by Vance Fox showing one of the mini-suites.
The Powder (photo above left) is larger than normal, and leads directly to the hot tub, serving as a convenient place to change or dry off. Above right, the stair carries the theme of melding barnwood with painted finishes.
