This SANDBOX designed $3.5M home sits on the 6th fairway of the private Lahontan Community golf course near Truckee, California, with views of the golf green and the ski runs on Northstar’s Lookout Mountain. Featuring 5 bedrooms, 5 baths, a 3-car garage, media room, fully-wired office for two, rec room, large gourmet kitchen, breakfast nook, formal dining room and a grand great room – all spread out over 5,500 square feet – this home can accommodate even the largest of family gatherings! The home has the feel of a large mountain lodge, most prevalent in the Great Room, with its glass window wall looking out on the fairway, a massive stone fireplace, soaring wood ceilings and heavy timber beamwork. The design of the home is site-specific, capturing key views and sun, and wrapping around a large Pine tree at the entry courtyard. SANDBOX created a ‘Guest Cottage’ that is virtually detached from the main areas of the house for privacy and a special sense of place. The ‘Cottage’ features a full master suite, covered porch and stone fireplace, and will surely be the favorite spot with special guests! Photo by Vance Fox (above) showing the Front Elevation with the large Pine tree in the center and the Guest Cottage at left.
Each bedroom in the home has vaulted ceilings, a private bath, walk-in closet and a deck or patio of its own, taking every opportunity to capture views of the fairway and the ski runs of Northstar. Many bedrooms also have fireplaces, with a total of five in the home, including an outdoor fireplace on the Fireside Terrace - one of several terraces around the home and the perfect place to relax with good company, share conversation and watch the sunset. There is also the stone Master Terrace with a sunken spa and a Dining Terrace with built-in cooking area. Photo by Vance Fox of partial Rear/Side Elevations (above), showing the Great Room, covered Fireside Terrace, main Master Suite and adjacent uncovered Spa Terrace.
The home was designed to be rustic in appearance, yet features all of the latest technologies. The exterior of the residence is clad in a mix of Cedar and Redwood siding, Sierra Granite and rusted Corten steel, referencing the context of the Tahoe region and Lahontan. Inside, the wood and stone materials carryover, but are more refined in their scale and texture. Vance Fox photo of Garage Side/North Elevation (above) showing indigenous palette of materials and colors, with the golf course under snow and ski runs visible behind.
