Situated in an open meadow adjacent to the Lahontan golf course, this 4,000 square foot custom home occupies one of the nicest home sites in Lahontan, with panoramic ski resort and mountain views, privacy and great sun exposure. SANDBOX designed the home to take best advantage of its spectacular site, with expansive windows bringing natural light and views into all interior spaces, as well as slide-fold stacking glass doors that completely open up from the Dining Room, Kitchen and Great Room to access a large stone terrace. The landscaped terrace also features a sunken spa, firepit and outdoor kitchen. Photo of South/Rear Elevation and terrace (above) by Vance Fox.
The site was restricted by Lahontan to a single-story home by appearance, so all of the upper level living space was achieved by tucking it up into the vaulted roof structure, creating intimate and cozy spaces, with dormers and windows to capture natural light and views. The exterior palette of materials and colors, with a mix of taupe-stained Cedar, deep brown trim accents, unique stonework and panelized steel, is fresh and not the typical monochromatic brown of so many Lahontan homes. SANDBOX designed an open and flexible floor plan to accommodate large families or several couples comfortably and in style, with three full master suites, plus an adjoining kids’ bedroom or office. Several separate social spaces exist to allow for formal conversation over a glass of wine in the Great Room, while the kids watch DVDs or play video games in the Family Room. Vaulted ceilings coupled with an abundance of windows and outdoor space makes the home ‘live’ even larger. A grand stone fireplace, as seen from the Kitchen (above left), is the heart of the home and the focal point of the Great Room. From the soaking tub (above right) in the guest master suite, one can gaze out over the golf course meadow in the Summer or the slopes of Northstar in Winter. Photos by Vance Fox.
Master craftsman Tony Hardy and his talented team completed the home on a reasonable timeline and budget, including exquisite detailing and quality throughout, as is evident in the intricate tile work and cabinetry of the master bath (above). Photo by Vance Fox.
