SANDBOX designed this 3,300 square foot residence for a sunny, knoll-like site in Lahontan, with views of Northstar Ski Resort. Stone and wood give rise to dramatic vaulted and glass-enclosed spaces, capturing abundant sunlight and views. Construction began in summer of 2009 and the home was completed in twelve months. Surrounded by dense stands of Pine and Fir trees on two sides, the lot is private and affords nice opportunities for outdoor living space. Thus, SANDBOX designed a rear terrace that spills off of the Master Suite, Great Room and Library, with places to eat, lounge in the sun, converse by the firepit or soak in the sunken spa. There is also an East-facing morning patio that has both covered and uncovered areas in which to sit and eat breakfast or sip a cup of tea. The interior of the Salontai Residence is everything a Lahontan home should be, with native stone and warm wood elements creating a very cozy ambience. Photo (above) by Vance Fox showing the view from the Dining Room to the Great Room, with the massive stone fireplace as the focal point.
As with all SANDBOX homes, the open floor plan flows nicely between the main social spaces, giving a more spacious feeling and fostering social interaction. Photo (above) by Vance Fox shows the view from the Great Room over to the Kitchen and Dining areas beyond.
The Master Bedroom is the perfect sanctuary for the owners, with its large stone fireplace, sitting area with window wall to the forest (not shown) and direct terrace access. Photo (above) by Vance Fox.
There is no place better to unwind after a day on the slopes than the free-standing tub of the Master Bath, which looks out to the forest through a large window wall. Photo (above) by Vance Fox.
