SANDBOX designed this 1,000 square foot 2- bedroom/2-bath guest house in the “Mountain Modern” vernacular, with shed roof forms, exposed steel, stone, concrete and overscaled glazing – a fresh take on mountain architecture, yet still befitting of its context. Completed in Summer of 2013, it will give the owners a place to use while their future 4,500 square foot main house is being built. Photo of exterior entry elevation by Vance Fox.
The Kitchen and Living areas feel much more spacious than their size would indicate thanks to large window walls and vaulted ceilings. Both spaces spill out onto a terrace, with a covered dining area and an uncovered fireside seating zone. Photo by Vance Fox looking from the Kitchen to the Living area, with its dramatic fireplace.
Both bedrooms have adjoining baths. The Master (above) has direct access to its own terrace, as well as large scale windows/doors to capture natural light and views and make the room feel larger. Photo by Vance Fox.
The Entry (above left), is adorned with interesting art and serves as a place to remove coats before heading to the Living Area around the corner. The finishes throughout the home are light and calming, such as can be seen in the Master Bath (above right). Photos by Vance Fox.
