SANDBOX designed this modern day Tahoe vacation ‘cabin’ for a family from San Francisco. Hardly a ‘cabin’ at 3,400 square feet in size and featuring all of the latest in technology and amenities, the home has a rustic look, yet can accommodate large family gatherings in great comfort. The house is situated on a steep slope, accessed by a drive that climbs up to a protected and private side entry. Photo of Side Elevation/Entry at twilight (above) courtesy of Vance Fox Photography.
The primary social space of the home is the Great Room (above). With a large stone fireplace, built-in entertainment center, access to decks on three sides, and direct connection to the Kitchen & Dining spaces, it truly is the central hub of the home. Photo by Vance Fox Photography.
The use of vaulted ceilings and many windows makes the home feel more spacious, and helps to bring the outside inside. The use of indigenous materials, such as wood and stone, creates the ‘cabin’ feel that so many people desire for their retreat in the mountains. On the downhill side of the slope, the house towers above, yet inside the scale is comfortably cozy, with well-proportioned interior spaces. Decks and patios spring from virtually every room, affording occupants the opportunity to take in the scenery and fresh mountain air. Photo (above) of Front Elevation at twilight by Vance Fox.
