SANDBOX designed this 4 bedroom/4.5 bath 3,300 square foot custom home as a weekend retreat for a family from the San Francisco Bay Area. With a traditional ‘Old Tahoe’ look on the exterior, the house is rustic and timeless by design, yet features all of the latest in modern luxuries. Partial view/photo of Front/Side elevations at twilight (above) by Vance Fox Photography.
The residence was constructed of indigenous materials, with heavy Fir timber framing, grand Sierra Granite support columns, and a mix of Cedar and Redwood siding. Taking an environmentally conscious approach, much of the wood came from reclaimed sources, which lends character to both the interior and exterior where used. The residence features an open floor plan in the main social spaces that allows for flow of people and conversation between the adjoining Kitchen, Dining and Great Room spaces. The casual arrangement of the spaces coupled with the warm wood and stone finishes creates a very cozy and comfortable place for the family to spend time. The home features many dramatic vaulted spaces, including the Entry Foyer and Great Room, with a timber catwalk that runs above both spaces, connecting the two upper bedroom wings with a loft, surrounding a massive two-story stone fireplace (above left). Both the Master Bedroom and Master Bath also feature vaulted ceilings. The Master Bath features a spa tub & separate steam shower with skylights above the Jacuzzi tub and acid etched marble counter surfaces on the his and her vanities (above middle). The tile work is a mix of travertine and slate with copper accents. The Master Bedroom (above right) has a dramatic ceiling with reclaimed Fir beams and a view of Lake Tahoe! The guest bedroom spaces are also comfortably sized and finished to a high-degree, with Alder wood panel wainscoting, rustic reclaimed wood ceilings and beamwork, private adjoining bathroom and an outdoor patio space for a hot tub. Photo of Guest Master Bedroom (above) by Vance Fox Photography.
