SANDBOX designed a true, rustic western lodge on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe for the Putnam Family in 2013. Large Sierra Granite and Basalt stonework compliments a gorgeous palette of 100% reclaimed heavy-timber siding from Montana to create a stunning & timeless, rustic aesthetic. Photo (above) by Vance Fox showcases the lakefront elevation, photographed from the pier.
Immediately upon approach to the home, SANDBOX created several glimpses through the home to the lake, teasing visitors with what’s to come, as can be seen in the photo of the entry (above) by Vance Fox.
The home is designed to capture the magnificent Lake Tahoe views from virtually every room, and to blur the lines between the indoor and outdoor spaces. SANDBOX incorporated ample glass and window/door walls throughout the home. Photo of the partial lakeside elevation (above) by Vance Fox, shows the Rec Room, with it’s extra large folding double-glass door wall, opening up to the terrace & lakeside lawn area.
A fantastic fireside rear terrace overlooks the lake and offers a mix of covered and uncovered space, a social setting around the firepit, and a sunken spa area near the Rec Room. Photo (above) by Vance Fox shows the firepit with Lake Tahoe beyond.
Inside the home, SANDBOX created an open, flowing floor plan, with 5 generous master suites, Great Room with soaring ceiling, Dining Room with 3 sides of glass, a Rec Room, a Media Room, Office and more. Photo of the Great Room with views of the lake and the large stone fireplace as the focal points.
Interior finishes are rustic, casual, warm and comfortable, with reclaimed barnwood floors throughout. Photo (above) by Vance Fox shows the Rec Room, with oversized folding glass door wall to the terrace and the barnwood floor and wall cladding.
The Dining Room is about as special as can be, with large stone columns book-ending three walls of glass, and offering panoramic Lake Tahoe views. Doors completely open on two sides, allowing folks to spill out to either the covered Dining Terrace or the uncovered Fireside Terrace. Photo (above) by Vance Fox showing the jaw-dropping Dining Room.
The large kitchen is perfectly suited for entertaining and/or preparing large holiday meals family-style, with ample room at the island counter bar to sit and watch others work. SANDBOX also tucked a wine refrigerator into a stone wall nearby for easy access. Photo (above) by Vance Fox of the Kitchen and Wine Cabinet.
All of the bedroom suites have lake views and outdoor living, either in the form of a stone terrace or upper level deck. Photo (above) by Vance Fox showing one of the suites with doors to the lakeside terrace.
A delightful lakeview reading loft sits perched above the Great Room, with windows looking out to the tranquil waters of Tahoe. Photo (above) by Vance Fox.
